As it was rumored earlier in the day, it now appears that Michael Lombardi, the former Cleveland Browns’ general manager, will be taking a Personnel Executive Position, with the Patriots. Mike Loyko of nepatriotsdraft.com broke the initial news.

Daryl Ruiter of 923thefan.com quickly followed Loyko’s tweet, saying that Lombardi’s exact position has yet to be determined. As I detailed here, Lombardi was with Bill Belichick in Cleveland back in the 90′s, so it makes sense having the two reunited in Foxboro

Who knows how much of an impact Lombardi will actually have in New England, but it is never a bad idea to add a guy that knows football like Lombardi does. Adding talent to the front office is kind of like adding depth to your cornerback group. Even if you have a solid “unit”, (Nick Caserio, of course Bill Belichick), you can never have enough minds working as a group, as they try to put together the best possible team on the field.

Lombardi has been in Cleveland, St. Louis, Oakland, San Francisco, and Philadelphia is his front office career.
