The first week of the offseason hasn’t been very nice to the New England Patriots, as they have already lost three assistant coaches (Pepper Johnson, George Godsey, Dante Scarnecchia). But it could get even worse, as today Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Nick Caserio, the Pats director of pro personal, interviewed for the Miami Dolphins‘ GM position. This would be another big loss for the Pats, as Caserio is a key cog in the New England machine.
Albert Breer of NFL.com had some interesting insight on this situation, mentioning that Caserio has turned down numerous GM offers in the past, making his interview in Miami a little concerning from a Patriots standpoint. Here are Breer’s comments (via twitter).
“Caserio has turned down GM interview inquiries in the past and many assumed he’d be tough to pry from the Pats. So this is VERY interesting.”
In some positive news, Mike Pettine was hired as the Cleveland Browns head coach yesterday, taking Josh McDaniels, the Pats offensive coordinator, out of the running. McDaniels takes a lot of heat throughout the year, but he is an excellent football coach, and I am glad that he will remain in Foxboro for the 2014 season.
