In this weeks’ FanSided edition of the 2014 NFL Mock Draft, Peter Smith of withthefirstpick.com, has the New England Patriots selecting tight end Jace Amaro, out of Texas Tech. This is the second time that Amaro’s name has been mentioned with the Patriots, and I think it would be a great pick.
“With the loss of Aaron Hernandez and the injury to Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots are awfully thin at tight end. The hope is that Gronk can recover and come back, so if he can and does, Amaro is a fantastic complement in the Hernandez role. He knows how to get open, make plays and is a threat after the catch. If Gronk can recover and return, they have the same type of threat they had when he and Hernandez were working at full capacity. The Patriots are substantially better at drafting tight ends than wide receivers, so they might as well go that route as they try to get more weapons for Tom Brady.“
As Smith mentions, the once loaded tight end position in New England is now in need of some talent, and Amaro could be a guy that returns that position to glory. Rob Gronkowski should be able to return for the start of the 2014 season, and the combination of him and Amaro would be deadly. If Gronk suffers a setback, then having Amaro on the squad would help them stay on track, until Gronkowski returns.
