Yesterday it became known that Alfonzo Dennard would not be available for the New England Patriots this week, as they prepare to take on the Carolina Panthers Monday night. Dennard is not only one of the best cornerbacks on the Patriots, but he is beginning to climb the ranks as one of the best cover guys in the entire NFL. With Dennard out, it became extremely important for Aqib Talib to be available for the Pats, and luckily, he is.
It was just reported by Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, that Talib made the trip to Carolina, and is expected to play. This is great news for Pats fans, not only because of Dennard being absent, but because of the sheer talent that Talib brings to the table. He has picked off four balls in just six games played here in 2013, and it is obvious that the New England defense is just not the same with him on the sidelines.
With this being said, it is not like everybody was expecting the Panthers to air it out against the Pats. In fact, I would think that they would want to throw the ball even less, given that New England’s run defense is among the worst in the league. But having Talib back will help with the few times that Carolina does throw it, which will increase the Patriots chances of winning this ball game.
