New England Patriots star wide receiver Danny Amendola had a terrific game against the Buffalo Bills, and he was a major reason why the Patriots are able to put a “1” under the win column. Amendola showed great toughness after returning from an aggravated groin injury, and he had four of his ten catches on that game-winning drive. But Amendola is fully expected to miss Thursday’s game, and ESPN’s Ed Werder is another NFL Insider reporting that Danny Amendola will likely miss the game against the New York Jets. According to Werder, Amendola is “not likely to play”, but he also reports that the Patriots have not ruled Amendola out either.
That’s to be expected, but Werder’s report is confirmation to us that we should definitely not count on seeing Amendola on the field on Thursday, but we shouldn’t absolutely rule it out either. I would be shocked if Amendola was out there against the Jets, and his injury impact cannot be understated. Amendola and his impeccable ability to run routes and make tough catches was one of the main reasons why the Patriots won, and he is clearly the Patriots best pass-catcher (assuming Rob Gronkowski is still on the shelf). Without Amendola, Shane Vereen, and likely Rob Gronkowski, the Patriots rookie receivers will have to click.
We probably won’t know Amendola’s official status until the inactives are listed before game-time, so there is still a glimmer of hope that Amendola can play in this one. Nobody should be counting on it, though, and Werder has simply added another report to the list of those stating that Amendola will likely be absent against the Jets.
