New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski is still at the very least a week away from playing in a regular season game, but the fact that he continues to practice is extremely encouraging and has me believing that he could indeed play in Week 2. While it is probably more ideal for the Patriots to wait until Week 3 to play Gronkowski, it isn’t impossible to envision him playing in Week 2. The practices could all be smokescreens or not notable occurrences, but there seems to be a shot that we see Rob Gronkowski suiting up and playing against the New York Jets. While that is very difficult to envision given that it is a short week, the point remains that the health indicators regarding Gronkowski are all optimistic at this point.
While Gronkowski was able to get another, presumably limited, day of practice in, backup offensive tackle (and guard, if there is an emergency) Will Svitek was once again unable to practice. He hasn’t put in a day of practice this week and clearly looks like he won’t be suiting up to play against the Buffalo Bills. That will hurt the Patriots depth at tackle, but it won’t mean much in the context of one game. It will be interesting to see how serious Svitek’s injury is, because he could also be out for that short week game against the New York Jets.
