Welcome to the initial MusketFire.com staff projections for the upcoming New England Patriots game. Week one kicks off with the Patriots on the road in Buffalo, NY to face the Buffalo Bills. Last season, the Patriots had a field day running the ball against Buffalo, but with the Bills importing former New York Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and his Rex Ryan hybrid 3-4 defense, the Bills expect to be much improved against the running game this season. This week, the Patriots face a depleted Bills secondary, as the Bills lost top cornerback Stephon Gilmore to injury for the first half of the season, inexplicably let safety George Wilson walk this offseason, and with disgruntled safety Jairus Byrd possibly not suiting up, the Patriots may be spending a lot of time attacking by air. On offense, the Bills have rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel healthy enough to start, but no one on the New England defense will be sleeping on explosive running back C.J. Spiller. What does the future hold for Sunday afternoon? Well, the dedicated staff at MusketFire.com has it covered. Here are the staff predictions for the Patriots versus the Bills matchup in week one of the NFL season!

About the Author
A life-long fan of all Boston sports, Hal--like the Patriots--is from Southeastern MA. Sticking with the Pats through the lows of the late seventies/early eighties; the short, brief flicker of hope of 1985/6; the horrid fall-out and rock-bottom of the late 80s & early 90s before the coming of Drew & the Tuna to turn things around for the franchise and led to the Belichick Era of Prosperity (completely blocking out Pete Carroll and Bobby Grier, there). Inspired by the great online sportswriters in the early 2000s, Hal started his own blog on all things Boston sports which he keeps to this day. He is a huge fan of MusketFire and hopes his critical thinking, statistical bent, unique voice, unbiased insights, and sense of humor can add to the site. Hal is happily married with two children.
