New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was back on the practice field today, and he was once again dressed out in full pads. While it is still impossible to envision him playing in Week 1 or in Week 2 (a short week against the New York Jets), I would be surprised if Gronkowski wasn’t playing by Week 4. Reports earlier this month stated that Rob Gronkowski would be on track to play in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it looks like he is indeed ready to play by then. The Patriots were confident enough in Gronk’s health to cut both Jake Ballard and Daniel Fells, and he continues to make strides and has practiced in full pads for three straight sessions thus far.
The only absence during practice today was Will Svitek, who has now missed three days of practice. It never looked like Svitek suffered an injury, but he is sporting a brace on his right knee. Svitek is the Patriots swing tackle, and he can also play guard in a pinch during emergency situations. But, based on what we saw in the preseason, let’s hope that Dan Connolly, Logan Mankins, and Marcus Cannon can mostly stay healthy this season.
The news on Rob Gronkowski continues to be positive, and he continues to take blocking reps at practice.
ESPN Boston’s Field Yates notes that Matthew Mulligan and Brandon Bolden may be sporting very minor injuries.
