The New England Patriots announced that they have released defensive back Marquise Cole. This was necessary to return the roster to it’s 53 man limit in the wake of an additional player claimed off the waiver wire.
Summary of the latest player movement
The New England Patriots claimed a fourth player off waivers, adding third-year LB Chris White from Detroit. Along with the previously announced claims for three rookies, OL Braxston Cave (Cleveland), G Chris Barker (Miami) and DT A.J. Francis (Miami), the Patriots had to release two players in order to be at the 53 man mark. Those two players were veteran running back and kick returner Leon Washington and defensive back Marquise Cole.
The Patriots re-signed five players they had recently released to their practice squad. These players are LB Ja’Gared Davis, S Kanorris Davis, DB Justin Green, DL Marcus Forston and LB Jeff Tarpinian.
It’s likely there will be additional roster movement in the next couple of weeks. The Patriots roster as it stands now is comprised as follows.
The team has 2 quarterbacks, 1 kicker, 1 punter, 1 long snapper, 6 wide receivers, 1 fullback, 4 running backs, 3 tight ends, 10 offensive linemen, 8 defensive linemen, 7 linebackers, 4 corner backs, and 5 safeties.
