Quentin Sims on Tim Tebow, touchdown catch

New England Patriots third-string quarterback Tim Tebow is the most intriguing player on the bubble watch, but he boosted his stock last night by actually showing several positives. While Tebow had a characteristic, bad interception, he also threw two touchdown passes and had an efficient yards per attempt average. Tebow definitely has undrafted free agent wide receiver Quentin Sims to thank for both touchdown receptions, as he took advantage of bad coverage on the first long TD and also added a nine-yard touchdown catch as time expired.

Sims and Tebow share an excellent connection, and that stems back from training camp. Here’s what Quentin Sims stated about his chemistry with Tebow, “Me and Tim, we pretty much all training camp have been working together. I’ve made plays for him and he makes good throws for me, so we got good chemistry and he knows to look for me.”

He added, “All training camp, me and Tim have connected on that a few times. Coach put a big emphasis on wanting to do that, so it was good we connected.”

The Tennessee-Martin product also said this of the 52-yard touchdown, “I knew I had a chance to get open – it was man coverage – I noticed the man guarding me fell on the pass and I saw a single-high safety and I just tried to out run him.”

He absolutely destroyed his man on that play, and Sims took perfect advantage of some really shoddy coverage.

The cuts have begun w/ Fells and Ballard getting the axe so far. Develin to TE? I’m curious if Sims can make it to the PS. He seems to be worthy from what I’ve seen & vs the Giants, Sims outplayed Dobson.

Sims is clearly deserving of a spot on the practice squad, and I’ve had him penciled in on my mental p-squad for a few weeks now. As for Develin, I can’t see him transitioning to TE after the releases, but the cuts certainly do benefit him. Michael Hoomanwanui is No. 2 on the depth chart now with Gronk still rehabbing, and that means we won’t see as much of him at H-Back. That heightens Develin’s chances of being the Pats fullback for sure, and both Yates and Reiss had him on the roster even before the TE cuts.
