The New England Patriots don’t play around with deadlines. The teams has reached the 75-man limit roster before today’s 4:00 PM EST . No surprise here, Tim Tebow has survived the first cut as it’s obvious he will be playing at some point in the Thursday’s night game against the New York Giants.
Earlier today the Patriots had released tight end Evan Landi, who was originally signed by Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a rookie free agent. It’s a no-sweat decision since the Patriots tight end core is very much straight forward. The count-down to 75-man came with the release of defensive lineman Anthony Rashad White, signed by the Patriots late in July, who was originally signed by Pittsburgh as a rookie free agent out of Michigan State.
The 6-foot-2, 330-pounder, three-year letter winner as a nose tackle seemed to be a big deal for Pittsburgh, but his “out of shape frame” got him to waived injured status (nature of injury was never disclosed). After clearing waivers, he was back to the team’s injured/reserved list, only to later be released; reaching full heath and picked up the Patriots. For whatever reason, it did not work in the Patriots system either.
Here’s a look of the current Patriots 75-man roster.
More cuts are to come after Thursday’s game as the team will bring the 53-man roster to finalization by August 31.
