New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennnard legal problems is being pushed to the side as the court date for his appearance in court in Nebraska was moved to September 6 according to Lincoln Journal Star’s Lori Pilger. No court date is really a “good” court date, but should Dennard kept himself out of trouble and not getting arrested on suspicion of DUI, this probation violation hearing would not even be in the picture, much less, being postponed until September 6 – only two days prior to the season opener game.
But since it happened, if Dennard’s court date is not postponed again and if the process goes south by a determination that he violated his probation, the judge could order the start of the 30-day jail sentence immediately instead of what was previously set to star in March 1, 2014 for the conviction of assaulting a police officer.
Having this type of legal problem lingering day-by-day is enough of a distraction as if Dennard’s battle through injuries during training camp and preseason isn’t already enough. The possibility of missing the first five games is a hard hit to absorb in the secondary, but coach Belichick was already foreseeing the possibility of Dennard’s unavailability. Rookie Logan Ryan might be put in to an early test and it will be interesting to see if Ras-I Dowling will be pictured in the final roster – the main problem is his health, but he was seeing as full participant in yesterday’s practice.
