Danny Amendola, five others not at practice

The New England Patriots are missing a total of six players at practice today, with Danny Amendola being the most notable name on the list of absent players. Amendola hasn’t suffered any known injuries, and he is almost certainly getting well-deserved rest after a big preseason Week 2 game. The Patriots No. 1 wideout earned our “Game Ball” after catching six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, and it is clear that he and Tom Brady have an excellent rapport together. Amendola looks very comfortable on the outside, and his ball skills and ability to stretch the seam are major pluses for the Pats offense.

Rutgers product Brandon Jones looked good in limited snaps on Friday, but all he’s playing for is a spot on the practice squad at this point. The UDFA corner missed practice today, and fellow Rutgers UDFA Mark Harrison remains out. Armond Armstead and Rob Gronkowski were two other unsurprising absences, and both could very well be headed for the PUP list to start the regular season.

Jermaine Cunningham really needs to get healthy, especially since it is hard to envision him sticking around on the roster to begin with. I liked Cunningham as a rookie when he was a 3-4 OLB, and a change of scenery to that scheme could do him well. He has not been spotted at practice today either, and it will be interesting to see when he is able to make his return to the field.
