The New England Patriots invested their first pick in the draft on Jamie Collins, and Collins is well on his way to making good on that decision. He has made play after play in training camp, and Collins has a real knack for forcing fumbles. Although his pass rushing was not at its best against the Philadelphia Eagles, it wasn’t bad either, and he has shown up well in coverage too. Collins’s versatility, playmaking ability, and freak athleticism have earned him plenty of praise, and he received some yesterday from an opponent.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Tom Crabtree (former of the Green Bay Packers) also looked impressive yesterday at camp, and he said this about Jamie Collins, via ESPN Boston, “He’s a big, athletic guy. On top of that, you can tell their guys are smart, they are communicating really well before the snap. It’s a good challenge going against someone different.”
Pepper Johnson has spoke highly of Collins this offseason, and it’s easy to see why. Collins has been sponging up as much as possible from other players and the coaching staff, and I’m excited to see how he develops. With Brandon Spikes out yesterday for unknown reasons, Collins performed at a high level once again in his absence.
