The New England Patriots announced the starting date of training camp in 2013, and training camp is going to be a saving grace for us in the midst of the Aaron Hernandez saga. Usually, according to Adam Schefter on the Ross Tucker Podcast, the month-long period of the 15th of June to the 15th of July is the most dry in the NFL, but it’s been anything but dry for the New England Patriots with Aaron Hernandez’s potential involvement in the murder of Odin Lloyd.
Patriots minicamp will open up on the 25th of June, as that’s when the players will report to training camp. Although it will not be open for the public on the 25th, there will be some media access to interview players. So, uh, yeah, some New York reporters will be circling the 25th and camping out for a head start on Tebowmania.
Actual practices will start on the 26th of the month at 9 a.m. with the same date reserved for practices the next day (which is a Saturday). The best day is going to be the 29th of July, because that’s when Gil Santos and Tedy Bruschi will be formally inducted into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame, which is a distinction that both men have definitely earned.
I can’t wait for training camp, even if it means some unnecessary stuff regarding Tim Tebow.
Note: The New England Patriots, for the second year in a row, opted to forego the final day of minicamp.
