The rival New York Jets have made several new additions to their front office today, adding a number of scouts and a few front office workers. The most prominent new addition is former Arizona Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves, who, along with head coach Ken Whisenhunt, lost his job right after the regular season. The Jets announced the hiring of Graves as the team’s Senior Director of Football Administration, and he will be closely assisting first-year GM John Idzik in the Jets front office.
Graves is a good hire for the Jets, despite some of the decisions he made at the quarterback position for the Cardinals. He did a quality job taking the Cards to the Super Bowl and building them into a solid football team, and it’s always nice to add a former GM who has been to the Super Bowl to a front office. The Jets also announced a new Assistant Director of Pro Personnel, and that is Matt Bazirgan, who was promoted to this position.
Idzik’s hiring of Graves as his deputy in New York isn’t out of the blue or anything, because he and Graves used to work together in the Cardinals front office from 2004-2007. In an interesting twist, Idzik actually worked under Graves as his Director of Football Operations before leaving for the NFC West rival Seattle Seahawks.
