The New York Jets have so many different directions that they can take in the 2013 NFL Draft, now that they have two first-round picks with the ninth and 13th selections. The Jets have a high amount of interest in West Virginia Mountaineers star wide receiver Tavon Austin, and Rich Cimini of ESPN New York is the latest writer to report that the Jets “love” Austin.
Cimini also added that the Jets are “not as high on” former LSU Tigers pass rusher Barkevious Mingo “as some think”. Mingo has been the most popular player mocked to the New York Jets, and I recently went over a 2013 NFL Mock Draft today in which the Jets took Mingo after swapping their 9th pick for the San Diego Chargers 11th pick (the Chargers wanted D.J. Fluker in this mock).
The Austin-Jets rumors are starting to rise, and it sounds like there is a strong chance that the Jets take Austin with the 13th pick in the draft. The Jets could really use his playmaking ability at the wide receiver position, and Mark Sanchez would certainly be thankful for Austin’s services. Austin will almost certainly not fall out of the top-half of the draft, and an AFC East rival in the Buffalo Bills reportedly have Tavon Austin at the very top of their big board.
As for Mingo, he seems like a logical pick for the Jets. But Rich Cimini adds that the Jets could be looking for an interior defensive lineman, and he agrees with Jason La Canfora’s suggestion that it could be Star Lotulelei. If he or Sharrif Floyd is on the board for the Jets with the ninth pick, then either one of them could very well be the pick for the Jets there.
