Buffalo Bills have Tavon Austin on top

West Virginia Mountaineers star wide receiver Tavon Austin has seen his draft stock skyrocket ever since his amazing forty yard dash at the 2013 NFL Combine, and Austin will almost certainly be taken in the top-half of the draft. Teams like the New York Jets have fallen in love with him, and there is even a chance that Austin ends up getting picked in the top ten.

This could be a smokescreen, but if it’s true, then this could be big news for Austin and the Buffalo Bills. According to top NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, the Bills top rated guy on their big board is Tavon Austin.

The Buffalo Bills seem to be in a position where trading down is their best bet, and I highly doubt they use their current first-round selection to take Ryan Nassib. They might pull the trigger if they are indeed that scared of the New York Jets taking Nassib, but that would also assume that Nassib is their top choice on the board at QB to begin with. It seems more likely that they will trade down, take a QB (likely Nassib) with a later pick, and then build talent elsewhere.

It’s easy to forget, but wide receiver is also a need that is up there for the Bills, and their new quarterback will need someone else besides Stevie Johnson to target. Scott Chandler is coming off of an ACL tear, and the Bills got rid of two quality possession guys in Donald Jones and David Nelson this offseason.

Austin might be a reach in the top ten, but the Bills could take him if they really want him. Or, they could trade down and hope that they can somehow snag both Austin and a QB. This is an interesting storyline to monitor, especially if Tavon Austin is indeed the player they have graded above all others. For the Bills, that would seem to justify taking him in the top ten in their eyes.
