New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has checked in at several schools in the pre-draft process, including the in-area Connecticut Huskies and the Miami Hurricanes in one of his obligatory Florida school tours. Today, Belichick is in South Bend, as the South Bend Tribune reports that Belichick is checking in on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as a guest speaker today. Last night, he spoke with reporters in a Q&A.
Belichick said this about Notre Dame Football, “They’re smart, they’re tough, they’re disciplined. … They’ve certainly played on a big stage, played with a lot of pressure — TV games, sellout crowds. The expectations of the Notre Dame football program are extremely high. So when they go to the next level, that’s not something that they’re in awe of, because of what they’ve experienced here.”
David Givens is the most notable Notre Dame alumn to play for the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick, and it will be interesting to see if any Irish players land on the Pats radar. It doesn’t sound like Belichick is doing any heavy scouting in South Bend, because he is just there as a guest speaker. But it’s fun to let our minds wander, even as there are no Notre Dame prospects who are strong candidates to be drafted by the Patriots.
Man, Givens sure was a steal back in 2002 as a seventh-rounder? Any chances of finding that kind of a steal this year? Comment below on your favorite sleeper prospects in the seventh-round of the 2013 NFL Draft, as well as the chances of the Patriots picking up a Notre Dame player this year (I say almost zero).
