New England Patriots hosting Desmond Trufant

Washington Huskies standout cornerback Desmond Trufant is a popular option for the New England Patriots in many 2013 NFL Mock Drafts, and I would think the Patriots would snap him up if he fell into their hands with the 29th pick in the draft. Both Trufant and Mississippi State Bulldogs CB Johnthan Banks seem to be the Pats top targets at a top position of need heading into the draft, and the Patriots will be hosting Trufant on a pre-draft visit both today and tomorrow. This report comes to us from former Pats beat writer and current NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport via Twitter.

Trufant, like Banks and Florida State Seminoles product Xavier Rhodes, is a cornerback who would fit the Patriots scheme. Bill Belichick likes corners with some size and aggressiveness who are good in press coverage, and that’s what the Washington alumn would provide the Pats. Likely a top 20 pick due to his rising stock, most Pats fans would be happy to see the team draft Trufant and several fans showed their approval towards the Pats decision to work out Trufant.

The younger brother of Seattle Seahawks fan favorite Marcus Trufant and New York Jets CB Isaiah Trufant, Desmond Trufant had an amazing 2013 NFL Combine performance. Trufant was burned a bit too often in college with the Huskies, so the big corner received plenty of criticism leading into the combine (I was one of the critics) regarding his speed. However, he completely shut down that criticism with excellent forty times of 4.31 and 4.38. Right now, his value is in the top 20.
