Baltimore Ravens Release Bernard Pollard And Patriots Should Sign Pollard

Welcome to Day 2 of Free Agency Frenzy! After an exciting Day 1 in the league, but somewhat a quite day in Foxboro, as of now there has not been much news on the Patriots side. Our “Big 3”  will hopefully be re-signed with us (I’m really hoping so) and our only free agents that headed out of Foxboro in Day 1 were Donald Thomas to Indianapolis Colts and Patrick Chung to Philadelphia Eagles.

What cheers me up in this hour of Free Agency Frenzy Day 2 is the news that Baltimore Ravens safety Bernard Pollard is out of Baltimore as he said in his Twitter:

“Well Raven Nation it’s been fun. My time in Baltimore is done… Thank you!”

Bernard Pollard signed with the Ravens as an unrestricted free agent back in 2011 and as Spotrac listed he was on a one-year contract for 2013 for a $2.25 million salary. In 2012, Pollard played 13 games and accumulated 98 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 interception.

This news brings a sparkle to my eyes, because I see that as an opportunity for the New England Patriots to sign Bernard Pollard and I think they should.

For one, we need depth in the defense and since Ed Reed more likely will not be  within reach – financially and technically speaking – as Pollard departure was probably an indication that the Ravens wants to make some cap room to keep Ed Reed.

Yes, let’s sign Bernard Pollard! The 6-1, 224-pounder, 28 year-old safety might be the answer to address and complement our defense.

While I’m not a big fan of Pollard, I value his talent and athleticism and the number two reason for signing Pollard is the fact that he won’t be hurting another Patriots player.

That for me, seals the deal.
