Report: New England Patriots to Likely Re-sign Wes Welker and Aqib Talib

This could possibly be some great news for New England Patriot fans, if indeed true.  The report earlier on today had said that Greg Bedard of The Boston Globe reports that other moves are possibly in order, according to what he’s learned from league sources. Bedard predicted that, of the three big names for the Patriots Wes Welker, Aqib Talib and Sebastian Vollmer; two  can be expected back. Bedard said that the Patriots are unlikely to use the franchise tag on Welker, Talib or Vollmer, but that Welker and Talib both have good chances of playing in New England next year. Welker will probably get a contract extension before free agency opens, with the main impetus being that the Patriots would like to keep him away from an AFC rival, according to Bedard. Keeping Welker would be extremely important if the Patriots indeed decide to part ways with Brandon Lloyd, as New England is thin at the wide receiver position.

The Patriots haven’t been particularly happy with Lloyd’s attitude throughout the season and along with that they weren’t too happy with the results from him. While statistically he had a decent season, he wasn’t as big of a factor they had originally thought.

In other news, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.  Jeff Demps has informed the Patriots that he’s returning to track, but wants to play two sports. He’ll remain with the Patriots but nothing is certain how this situation will work out.

Great opening article Kristian. I also think that Welker will be resigned but I am not so sure about Talib. His whole attitude could be something that will be a deal breaker. Hopefully he is resigned because his impact on the Pats is huge.
