The Chicago Bears aren’t the only team looking to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for their head coaching position, as the Arizona Cardinals have also scheduled an interview with the innovative offensive mind who helped lead an offense quarterbacked by Tim Tebow to the playoffs using an innovative option system.
Adam Schefter is reporting thatMcCoy will be interviewing the Bears and Cardinals this coming weekend, and it will be interesting to see which team McCoy shows more interest in coaching. It has to be the Bears, because they actually have legitimate pieces on offense like Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, and Jay Cutler. I mean, the difference in caliber between Cutler and the Cardinals quarterbacks is enough to make most head coaching candidates take a closer look at the Bears.
We’ll see if any other teams show interest in McCoy, because he is one of the big names out on the market ready to be promoted from an offensive coordinator position to a head coaching gig. McCoy has had it easy this season with Peyton Manning as his starting quarterback and something of a second OC, but he definitely didn’t have it easy last season with Tebow as his quarterback.
The Cardinals fired head coach Ken Whisenhunt and GM Rod Graves earlier today. Most teams fill their GM vacancy before their head coaching one, so the new GM will be dictating who gets the call as the new head coach. Regardless, McCoy seems like a solid option in a vacuum, especially for a team like the Cardinals that needs a bright offensive mind righting the ship.
