New England Patriots release James Develin and Kamar Aiken

The New England Patriots signed Kamar Aiken off of the practice squad before the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they have released the second-year depth wide receiver just after the game. Hard-working fullback James Develin is also on the way out, but both are expected to re-sign on the Patriots practice squad.

The Pats have a one-week exemption for suspended defensive end Jermaine Cunningham, who will take the 52nd spot on the roster. However, there is now extra space due to the release of both players. I bet the Pats sign a wide receiver to the team, and I wonder if that man could be Jabar Gaffney.

Offensive lineman Jeremiah Warren and returner Tony Logan were released from the practice squad, and I bet Aiken and Develin replace those guys on the practice squad. Both of them have been very valuable on the scout time, as Aiken has often imitated opposing receivers and Develin has been one of the hardest workers on the team.

And yes, I’m not going to even try to hide the fact that Develin is one of my favorite “unknown” player on the team.

It looks like New England is going to pick up a wide receiver, and I hope it’s somebody with experience on the team (Gaffney) or somebody who has enough speed to cover returns.

What should the Patriots do? Should they pick up a wide receiver? It’s your turn to play GM.
