NFL Insider Jason LA Canfora has tweeted that Tim Tebow will not be active today for the New York Jets against the San Diego Chargers as a “healthy scratch”, which means that the Jets will be rolling with just Greg McElroy and Mark Sanchez. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, but the important scratch here is the collective scratch of most fans’ heads. The Jets traded for Tebow, and they still won’t use him (even as a rusher) despite the problems at quarterback.
McElroy looked good against the Arizona Cardinals in engineering a victory at the helm, so we’ll see if he can get something going against the Chargers. He shouldn’t have too much trouble, as the Chargers got blown out by the Carolina Panthers last week.
The New England Patriots opponents today, the Jacksonville Jaguars, are expected to get Tebow this offseason. It is impossible to envision him sticking with the Jets, and it is no surprise that the word is he wants out. Whether or not you think Tebow is a solid quarterback isn’t the true issue here, it’s the fact that the Jets went out of their way to trade for him and have been adamant on not playing him despite Mark Sanchez’s struggles.
Really, the only thing that can redeem the Jets is a victory led by McElroy.
