The New England Patriots Week 17 opponent will be missing a starting wide receiver in their matchup against the Patriots Week 16 opponent. The Miami Dolphins have ruled out slot receiver Davone Bess for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and this injury is a big loss for the Dolphins given the lack of depth behind both Bess and Brian Hartline at the wide receiver position. Ryan Tannehill has leaned on both solid wideouts heavily in his rookie season, as evidenced by the 61 catches Bess has.
Those 61 catches have been crucial for the Dolphins, and Davone Bess has finally emerged as the possession receiver he was meant to be for this team. Without him, Marlon Moore will be starting for the Dolphins and rookie Rishard Matthews will see a significant role in the passing game. He’s seen his stock rise due to the release of Jabar Gaffney, so we’ll see what Matthews has in store for the Jaguars.
It’s always tough to deal with an injury to a player who has been consistently in the line-up for every game of his career. Yes, the 27-year-old is set to miss his first game of his five-year career, which is just a mind-boggling total to think of. The Dolphins will surely miss him against Jacksonville, but they should still be able to pick up their sixth win of the year.
Bess has been dealing with back issues lately and was not able to practice all week.
