According to The Boston Herald, New England Patriots stars Logan Mankins and Chandler Jones were present at the team’s walkthrough today ahead of the Monday Night Football clash against the Houston Texans. Both players are crucial to this team’s success against the Texans, with Jones’s health being exceptionally important. The run defense needs to be at its best against Arian Foster and the Texans run defense, and Jones is one of the best 4-3 DEs against the run.
Jones has been out since injuring his ankle early in the win over the Indianapolis Colts, and it looks like both he and Mankins are close to returning. Donald Thomas has continued to play well in Mankins’s absence, but he has still been missed. The injury to Jones has been especially bad, because Jermaine Cunningham was suspended and the run defense has suffered in that area of the field. Trevor Scott is a strong pass rusher, but we saw that he leaves a little bit to be desired as a run defender.
The Patriots are as banged up as anybody right now with severe injuries to stars Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman (IR) now, as well as the numerous players absent in the trenches.
Rookie LB Dont’a Hightower, Gronk, OL Nick McDonald, and running back Shane Vereen were not spotted in the walk-through.
The Herald gives this crucial note, “ The presence of Mankins and Jones isn’t an indication that they’ll play Monday.”
Hightower and Vereen do not have any known injuries, and hopefully they haven’t sustained any either. Nobody has any idea as to why either player was absent for the walkthrough, and we can only hope that Bill Belichick is just messing with us or something.
