Adam Schefter gave an update on New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman’s injury on Monday Night Countdown, and he said that it “looks like he’s going to be out for an extended period” after injuring his foot in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Edelman had just one catch in that game after two straight games with two touchdowns, and that’s because the Patriots had him in to block for most of the game. He was spotted after the game wearing crutches and a walking boot, and he quickly went back inside after seeing the media. That’s never a good sign.
He already missed a large chunk of the season after breaking his hand against the Baltimore Ravens early in the year, and his big game against the Indianapolis Colts a few weeks ago signified a return to form for Edelman.
It’s terrible to see such a talented player go down, and it looks like Edelman is going to be out for quite some time. Of course, it’s tough to get updates when talking about the Patriots. Rob Gronkowski could be out for the rest of the regular season, and the Patriots don’t have Greg Salas to fall back on.
However, they did re-sign Donte’ Stallworth as the new No. 3 receiver in what was a pretty easy move for the Pats to make.
It looks like Edelman has a high ankle sprain, but he may also have a severe foot sprain. Hopefully, it isn’t worse than either of those two scenarios.
