Julian Edelman and Dan Connolly Injury Updates

Two key players were injured in the New England Patriots narrow victory over the Miami Dolphins yesterday. Dan Connolly re-aggravated a back injury early on in the game, and the starting right guard was replaced by the versatile Nick McDonald. Connolly was first announced to be questionable to return, but the Patriots stated in the fourth quarter that he would not be returning to the game.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman suffered a foot injury in the fourth quarter after coming into the game questionable on the injury report with a concussion he sustained on Thanksgiving. Edelman was seen on crutches and with a walking boot after the game before promptly going back inside when he saw the media waiting outside.

It sounds like Edelman’s injury is serious, which is definitely a blow to the Patriots offense. He came up big in the previous two games with two touchdowns in each and was quickly becoming a huge threat on offense. During this game, Edelman caught just one pass but was primarily used as a blocker- that highlights his versatility.

With Greg Salas on the Philadelphia Eagles, it looks like the Patriots will have to sign somebody if Edelman’s injury is serious enough. They have very little depth at the position, as evidenced by the fact that Matthew Slater came in to replace him after the foot injury.
