The New York Jets are set to face the Arizona Cardinals today, and quarterback Mark Sanchez will almost certainly have wide receivers Jeremy Kerley and Chaz Schilens at his disposal. Both players are listed probable on the injury report, with nobody having been ruled out. However, fellow wideout Clyde Gates is listed doubtful, and he and Aaron Berry are not expected to play against the Cardinals.
Both Schilens and Gates suffered concussions against the New England Patriots in the Thanksgiving day loss, and it was apparent early on that Gates’s concussion is more severe than Schilens’s. The Jets will miss the lost production against a very dangerous Cardinals defense, with Arizona’s secondary being especially good.
Schilens is the better player, so it is great news for Jets fans that he and Kerley will be ready to go today. Kerley has emerged as the team’s best wideout in the absence of Santonio Holmes, and he has been one of only two legitimate receiving threats at Sanchez’s disposal. The other one is the maligned QB’s favorite target; tight end Dustin Keller.
Kerley is listed on the injury report with heel and hamstring injuries, and both wideouts are probable after getting needed rest by being limited in practice throughout the week. The former TCU standout has caught 45 passes for 664 yards this season, for an average of nearly 15 yards per reception and a little over 60 yards per game.
