Jeff Howe has tweeted that wide receiver Julian Edelman is practicing in the first New England Patriots full-padded practice since the 15th of November. It is one of the lone bits of good news, because six key players on the Pats are not practicing today with the majority of them being offensive lineman.
Rob Gronkowski is naturally not practicing today, and it will likely be a few weeks before he returns. Mark Zusevics and starting right tackle Sebastian Vollmer also did not practice, and let’s hope that Zusevics is not injured or anything. I doubt he is, but there’s always at least a worry.
Brandon Spikes was seen warming up on the stationary bike to start practice, with rookie LB Dont’a Hightower actually on a stationary bike as well (but that was reportedly for a brief amount of time).
Guards Dan Connolly and Pro Bowl-leading vote-getter Logan Mankins were also held out of Wednesday’s practice.
It’s great to see that Edelman is practicing again after sustaining a concussion from a huge hit from hulk-sized New York Jets safety LaRon Landry on Thanksgiving. Edelman has already passed the first concussion test (needed in order to begin practicing) which is obviously a great sign. The playmaking wide receiver will, however, need to pass a second concussion test in order to play against a subpar Miami Dolphins secondary on Sunday.
