Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams is at practice today, while fellow DE Mark Anderson and guard Chad Rinehart are not. Williams is almost certainly going to be playing in Week 9 and is fully expected to be ready to go in Week 10 against the New England Patriots. I haven’t heard much about Rinehart’s status, but I know that Anderson is not expected to play on Sunday.
However, Anderson should be good to go against the Patriots, giving the Bills a healthy tandem of incoming DEs for the first time since Week 5. That was when Anderson went down, and both players have needed surgery. Williams has been a huge disappointment for the Bills, and this defense needs to get back on track. If they don’t, they Stevan Ridley is going to run it all over them. Based on how well the Patriots blocked last week, the Bills will need their ends to be healthy and fully effective against New England.
In other news regarding defensive linemen, second-year nose tackle Phil Taylor is expected to make his season debut for the rising Cleveland Browns. Taylor will have to be activated from the PUP list, and Nate Ulrich tweeted that Taylor said he does not expect to start against the rival Baltimore Ravens. The run defense has suffered without the solid DL this season, so this is certainly big news for the Browns.
