According to Chris Steuber, scouts from the New England Patriots will be visiting the key Big Ten matchup between the Michigan Wolverines and Nebraska Cornhuskers, as well as the SEC battle between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Tennessee Volunteers.
Scouts from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Patriots Week 8 opponents (the St. Louis Rams) will also be watching the Michigan-Nebraska game. The Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, and Minnesota Vikings will be sending scouts for the Vols-USC game.
Safety D.J. Sweringer and CB Akeem Auguste are two players in the secondary to watch for from South Carolina, but the most noteworthy prospect on defense is defensive end Devin Taylor. “Spur” linebacker DeVonte Holliman is also a prospect worth keeping an eye on.
Defensive end Craig Roh is the best prospect on the Michigan Wolverines that would make some sense for the Patriots to draft, and he is one of the top 100 NFL Draft prospects. As for Nebraska, I don’t see anyone who jumps out aside from running back Rex Burkhead, who has almost no chance of being drafted by the Pats. He’s a solid back and one of my favorite players in the conference, but the Pats have enough talent at running back.
The South Carolina game is definitely one to watch for, because they have four players who deserve some early attention from New England Patriots fans. It’s interesting to see that scouts are going to the Michigan game, and it could mean the Patriots are taking a long look at Roh.
