New England Patriots rule Julian Edelman out

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has been ruled out for Week 4′s game against the Buffalo Bills, as he has not been able to practice this week due to a hand injury he sustained in Sunday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Edelman left the game after catching an 11-yard touchdown pass, but he was able to catch passes from Ryan Mallett on the sideline. That led to the belief that he would be able to play against the Bills, but it became clear that he would be missing Week 4 after not practicing yesterday.

Without Edelman, who received a heavy dose of snaps before going down last week, Wes Welker will be receiving at least ten targets and will likely be the focal point of the Patriots offense against Buffalo. He will have a big game against the Bills, as they have a poor situation at slot corner and linebackers who dominate the run but struggle in coverage.

Due to the release of Kellen Winslow Jr., Deion Branch should be receiving some more playing time now that Edelman has been injured. It will be interesting to see how tight ends Daniel Fells and Michael Hoomanawanui will be utilized, but this is a game that Welker will dominate.
