According to Tom Curran of CSNNE.com, the NFL has fined New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. What has not been confirmed is the amount that Belichick will be fined, but Curran wrote that sources have said he will be fined $50,000 for grabbing an official after Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker barely made a game-winning 27-yard field goal. Belichick was reportedly looking for an explanation as to why the play was not reviewed.
Curran notes that CSN Washington reported that Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has been fined $25,000 for chasing an official into the tunnel.
Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was not fined for saying some strong words to the referees during Sunday night’s game against the Patriots.
It was speculated earlier that Belichick would be suspended, but it was apparent that Belichick would only receive a fine. Even so, $50,000 is undoubtedly a hefty fine to suffer.
I wish the NFL stopped all fines for coaches with these replacement refs out there. I know it’s not their fault, but the league shouldn’t be benefiting financially from their inability to pay up enough money for the real refs in order to ensure that the best possible product is on the field. It’s just getting ridiculous, and the NFL is the big winner in all of this financially. They just made $75,000.
