Stevan Ridley is taking a flat New England Patriots offense on his back, but the rest of the offense is wasting his effort.
Since Aaron Hernandez left the game whith what appears to be a broken ankle, the Patriots passing game is struggling to find any rhythym at all. Gronkowski has disappeared, Lloyd can’t get free on isolations, Welker looks hesitant to take on contact, Brady is accurate on throws, but that doesn’t mean a lot when your recievers can’t stay with the flow.
On Defense, Chandler Jones has begun to dominate. The pass rush is getting to Kolb and it just paid off as Rookie sensation Chandler Jones forced Arizona QB Kevin Kold to fumble the ball on a keeper, right into the waiting arms of the opportunistic Tavon Wilson…but the offense once again comes out flat and loses 16 yeards in 2 plays to be forced to punt. Brandon Spikes has made his presense felt as well. Very strong performance by the defense as a whole – particularly in the passing game, where Larry Fitzgerald has but one catch for 4 yards.
And the Foxborough faithful are giving Tom Brady and Company and well deserved ear full. The Arizona Cardinals have come in here and dominated the Patriots offense, with the exception of trying to contain Ridley on occasion.
…and then, suddenly, a long pass to Wes Welker and the mood at Gillette takes an upswing. Instantly, the Patriots offense seems to have swagger, some motivation…but then another sack of Brady and the half will end…Can the Patriots retain this shard of momentum going into the 2nd half?
Patriots fans need to see their team respond to the Hernandez injury better than what they’ve seen to this point.
