The New England Patriots are set to travel to Nashville, Tennessee tomorrow for their Sunday game against the Tennessee Titans, and they will probably be playing without No. 2 running back Shane Vereen. Out since sustaining a foot injury on the 24th of August in the third preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Vereen was the only Patriot who is not practicing today.
Without Vereen, expect a lot more Danny Woodhead, particularly as a receiver out of the backfield. On another obvious note, the absence of Vereen would mean more carries for Stevan Ridley, who should have a huge game against the Patriots and show off the skills he showed last season as a rookie that turned in some very good game tape to break down.
Of course, Vereen hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game, but officially upgrade this to “doubtful” status for Vereen at this point. Conventional wisdom says that he’ll be out for the game against the Titans, thus making Ridley a must-start for fantasy purposes. I mean, he could very well get over 90 rushing yards and a touchdown or two.
As for Vereen, we can only hope that things somehow change, but the fact that the Patriots have to travel to Tennessee tomorrow only furthers the notion that they will be playing without their No. 2 running back. On the bright side, everyone else was practicing today.
