Throughout yesterday and today, we took a look at the big cuts the New England Patriots made in dwindling down the roster from 75 to 53 men. Now, it’s time to look at the players I didn’t cover who received the axe and some brief notes about them. Later on, the writers from the site will answer questions about the Patriots cuts yesterday.
OL Matt Kopa- Struggled in training camp, clearly didn’t deserve to make the roster but should join the practice squad.
S Sergio Brown- No-brainer, a special teams restricted player who, let’s face it, might not even be as good on special teams as Nate Ebner.
DL Marcus Harrison- Some value as a pass rusher but deserved to be axed in favor of Marcus Fortson.
OT Dustin Waldron- An interesting depth tackle, but the writing was on the wall for him. The question is, can he make the practice squad?
OL Derek Dennis- A total longshot, was poor against the New York Giants.
DE/LB Aaron Lavarias- One of the earlier cuts on Friday, never saw him on any 53-man roster projections.
OL Darrion Weems- Some fans harp on this guy, but Weems has the right size and mentality. With some time on the practice squad and good coaching, he could turn into a capable backup.
TE Tyler Urban- Played well in camp, but the New England Patriots definitely don’t need another tight end.
TE Alex Silvestro- One of my favorite players on the team; a lock to make the practice squad.
S Malcolm Williams- Williams, like Brown, is a special teams restricted safety but is practice squad eligible and has a good chance of making it there.
OL Jeremiah Warren- Nothing came of his large UDFA signing bonus, as he was terrible in camp and would have been a completely shocking addition to the 53-man roster.
