Veteran free agent Robert Gallery retired over the weekend. So did Matt Light. Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins (knee) is on the physically unable to perform list, and fellow guard Brian Waters’ playing status is still to be determined. Right tackle Sebastian Vollmer also is dealing with a back injury, leaving Solder as one of the few starting and healthy linemen from February’s Super Bowl team.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Linebacker is one of the more competitive positions in New England’s training camp this summer, and it makes sense. After all, the Patriots ranked 31st in the NFL in team defense last season, ahead of only the Green Bay Packers.
FOXBOROUGH – The buzz on the 10th practice day was looking ahead to the Saints. They’ll be practicing with the Patriots Tuesday and Wednesday before squaring off at Gillette Stadium Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Cornerback Devin McCourty and the rest of the Patriots secondary certainly haven’t forgot about the 2011 season.
The Patriots ran their rookies through their annual slip-and-slide drill during today’s practice. Vince Wilfork held the hose in the far corner of the practice fields, and each rookie took their turn diving through the soaked grass for a loose football. It happened toward the start of practice, so they had to continue through the session soaked.
