Brady Restructures Deal, Makes less than $1 Million in 2012

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

Tom Brady wants to win.

It has now been reported, that QB Tom Brady has agreed to restructure his contract, freeing up over $7 million toward the 2012 salary cap. This move was instrumental in the New England Patriots off season Free Agency acquisitions of WR’s Brandon Lloyd, Anthony Gonzalez, Donte Stallworth, DE Trevor Scott, TE Daniel Fells and G Robert Gallery.
The story was first posted by Brian McIntyre and breaks down as follows.

Brady was to earn a base salary of $5.75 million in 2012. That salary will now be reduced to $950,000. The difference, $4.8 million, combines with the $6 million due to Brady as a roster bonus in February of 2013. This $10.8 million will be prorated over the remained two years of his five year contract.

In a sporting world where franchises live by a ‘what have you done for me lately’ mantra, and most players’ sense of loyalty is to the paycheck, Tom Brady is the exception to the rule. A marquee player, not only for the New England Patriots, but for the NFL internationally, Tom puts team goals above personal glory. In short, Tom Brady wants to win, and will do whatever it takes to make that happen.
