If you’re like most fans, owning a player jersey from your favorite team is a wardrobe must. I have had my eyes on a Rob Gronkowski jersey to add to my collection. However, if you’ve been planning a purchase, you probably want to hold off until April after the rights to NFL apparel changes from Reebok to Nike. Nike is planning on making changes to the jerseys like they did in college football, though hopefully much less obnoxious. Here’s the scoop from Pro Football Talk:
In April 2012, Nike takes over the apparel contract from Reebok. And on the day that the switch was announced in October 2010, Nike Brand president Charlie Denson told Darren Rovell of CNBC that significant adjustments are coming.
“We plan on changing the NFL jersey dramatically just like we’ve done with the college programs, using new thinking and the greatest technology available,” Denson said. “The NFL program hasn’t had the same type of advancement in recent years.
Yikes! If the new jerseys are hideous, waiting to buy is still probably a good idea as retailers will likely be putting clearance prices on all of the old Reebok jerseys. I hope this saves some of you from a purchase you’d regret if a few months!
