Jets Loss Tightens Patriots’ Grip on the AFC East

In somewhat shocking manner, the New York Jets lost to the Denver Broncos last night, 13-17, following another late Tim Tebow-led comeback. The loss drops the Jets to 5-5 on the season. The Patriots are 6-3 heading into a Monday Night showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs. A win Monday night, coupled with the Pats season sweep of the Jets, could be the final nail in the Jets’ playoff coffin. The Buffalo Bills are still in contention at 5-4 and are facing the Miami Dolphins Sunday. An ideal situation for Patriots fans would see the struggling Bills fall to the Dolphins, which could lock up the AFC East for the Patriots (coupled with a Pats win Monday).

The Pats have a relatively easy schedule for the remainder of the season, which helps their cause. The Patriots’ playoff destiny is firmly in their won hands. Their AFC East foes have fallen off, so if they can take care of their own business, they can punch their own tickets to the postseason.
