Not only are the Patriots winning games following losses, they are winning by a huge margin. In those 15 wins following a loss they win the next week by an average of 20.9 points, including a 59-0 win over the Titans back in 2009.
Part of winning by a huge margin is being able to score a lot of points. The Patriots have been able to do that almost at will following a loss. Following a loss since 2005 the Patriots have averaged 31.9 points the following week, this includes the two games they lost.
Tom Brady has also played very well following a loss. Since 2005 he throws for an average of 256.6 yards per game in games following a loss. This is only in 12 games because of his season-ending injury of week 1 in the 2008 season.
While the Patriots are still disappointed in last Sunday’s loss, they have certainly moved on and will seek revenge on the Raiders Sunday. In fact, they could seek this to be a season-turning moment like last season following the loss to the Browns. The team went 8-0 following their week 9 loss last season.
The credit for their success has to go to their head coach Bill Belichick, who is intense as it is, but even more so after losses. After a loss he can get his team to focus even more and give them even more motivation than a week following a victory.
Be ready Oakland, the Patriots will be coming to play.
