Poll: How Far Will the Patriots Go in the 2011/2012 Season?

After two dominating performances in the preseason, optimism among Patriots fans is at an all-time high. The biggest reason for the optimism is the seemingly improved defense, which has harassed opposing quarterbacks thus far to the tune of 7 sacks. To further reinforce optimism, Tom Brady and the Patriot offense looked like it didn’t skip a beat during the lockout, putting up 28 points in one half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Even NFL analysts are looking at the Patriots as serious Super Bowl contenders.

The Bleacher Report took two opposite stances yesterday in two separate pieces.

In one article, Andrew McCluskey looks at five reasons that the NFL should fear the Patriots. His five reasons are:

  1. Offseason acquisitions
  2. Improved running game
  3. New defensive look
  4. Young talent developing
  5. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick

  1. The New York Jets
  2. A lack of an edge rush
  3. A tough schedule
  4. The Super Bowl Curse
  5. The NFC teams

Daniel Barnes sounds like a Jets “Homer” Fan. Only one of those points sounded somewhat professional (Edge Rush) which isn’t a problem IMO.

@TheBigChadowski Yeah I don’t think the “Edge Rush” point is valid anymore. The defense has been attacking thus far. The only point that I feel is valid that he proposes is the tough schedule. The Pats’ schedule is pretty tough, and if they lose games to the contenders (Steelers, Colts, Chargers, Jets), they could be on the road in the playoffs instead of being at home. Always tough to win on the road.

@musketfire I just don’t see any new threats coming from those teams… Jets lost ALOT of key players so did the chargers and definintely the Colts… The steelers mid field passes could be a problem, BUT pats D will adjust quickly like they did last year.
