With a couple of roster spots open and a lack of depth in the secondary, the Patriots made a move today, signing safety James Ihedigbo. Ihedigbo played his college football at UMass and was born in Northampton, MA, so he is a homegrown player. James himself broke the news through his Twitter account (@JamesIhedigbo):
Thanks to #jetsfans for all the love an support greatly appreciate it’s on to a new chapter…..I’m Officially a New England Patriot!!!!!!
Ihedigbo previously played three seasons with the New York Jets, totaling 49 tackles, 5 sacks, and a forced fumble. He appeared in 14 games last season and 15 games in 2009. With Bret Lockett down with what appeared last night to be some kind of groin injury, Ihedigbo adds needed depth to the position and is a serviceable special teams player.
