Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston is reporting that the Patriots have released offensive tackle Mark LeVoir. LeVoir was a fifth year veteran who has been with the team since 2008. He was once considered the top back-up at tackle, but with the drafting of Nate Solder and the solid performance of Steve Maneri in the preseason opener, he could not hold onto his roster spot. In my 53-man roster projection, I had Maneri beating out LeVoir on the final cut.
With LeVoir being released, this opens up a roster spot for a new addition. The Patriots recently worked out WR TJ Houshmandzadeh and safeties Darren Sharper and Reynaldo Hill. With the safety position under the microscope, especially with Brandon Meriweather, could the Pats move to sign one of those safeties? Don’t bet against it!
