The Boston Herald’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Patriots will be working out WR TJ Houshmandzadeh on Momday. Houshmandzadeh most recently spent his time in Baltimore but didn’t make a splash, catching only 30 passes all season. He had previously spent time in Seattle and, of course, in Cincinnati playing opposite Chad Ochocinco. It was in Cinci that Houshmandzadeh had his most success, being the beneficiary of the attention that Chad got (the “on-field” attention, not the other kind).
Why would the Pats be bringing in TJ Houshamazilli?
There is a possibility that the once deep WR corps has been bitten by the injury bug harder than expected. Brandon Tate, Julien Edelmen, and Taylor Price have all missed the last two practice sessions, with Tate being missing for a week or so. If these injuries are somewhat serious or could be lingering, the Pats could be checking out Houshamazoo for added depth. One hopes that’s not the case, especially in Taylor Price’s case after making a big splash during the preseason opener.
The other possibility is that the Patriots are simply keeping their reserve player lists fresh just in case something serious were to happen during the rest of the preseason or regular season. The Pats routinely bring in players for workouts for these types of situations. If the Pats are interested in Houshbadilla, Ochocinco will likely be a happy camper to be reunited with his friend and former teammate. The two have a good chemistry both on and off the field.
And if you’re curious as to my various misspellings of TJ Houshmandzadeh’s name, allow me to take this opportunity to remind you of one of the greatest fantasy football commercials of all time.
