Patriots Look into Osi Umenyiora Trade, But Giants Aren’t Trading Osi Anymore

There are reports coming in that the New England Patriots are indeed looking into the possibility of acquiring DE Osi Umenyiora in a trade with the New York Giants. ESPN’s John Clayton (@ClaytonESPN) tweeted the following this morning:

Matt Roth visited the Patriots and is an option. The Pats haven’t called but are checking out the Osi U. options

Intriguing and exciting information if you’re a Patriots fan. Even if the Pats don’t land Umenyiora, it’s nice to see that they’re checking into acquiring the player. Not much news gets out about everyone’s favorite football team from New England due to the Bill Belichick gag order, but these inquiries happen all the time. Fans are (unfortunately) not privy to much of the behind-the-scenes personnel checks.

Just as I was writing this story, the following news broke: The Giants are no longer allowing Osi Umenyiora to seek a trade. That comes from Mike Garafalo of the NY Star Ledger, and he’s pretty on top of things, so that seemingly kills it. This could be a mistake as it will surely anger Osi, unless the Giants are planning on giving him a new contract. We shall see…
