So I get to work this morning, fire up the computer, munch on my small breakfast, and open up Twitter to find that the Patriots have acquired Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth. Haynesworth?! The guy that hated the 3-4, didn’t want to play in it, showed up to camp last year out of shape, and was a malcontent ALL SEASON? THAT Albert Haynesworth?! Shocked, I am. This move smacks of the trades for Corey Dillon and Randy Moss, but those were guys that seemingly just wanted to win. What does Albert Haynesworth want?
The Pats acquired Haynesworth reportedly for a 2013 fifth-round draft pick, so that makes the move feel a little better. However, how much is locker room chemistry worth? Is this really a low risk-high reward trade if he blows up the locker room and becomes a malcontent? I am very skeptical of this trade at this point.
Back to work before I get into trouble I’ll be watching the wire for more moves and will keep you updated. Later on, I’ll analyze the role Haynesworth could play in the Patriots’ 3-4 defense.
