Patriots With The Best Value

In response to a reader’s question, ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss compiled a list of the top 5 players on the Pats who give the team the best bang for their buck. In other words, these are players who are big contributors to the team but do not have a high salary. The “salary” part is key because he does not factor in any signing bonuses the players may have received when they signed their deals. One factor that jumps out at me is the fact that four out of the five players on the list were drafted by the Patriots, two of which are from the 2010 draft class. Here’s Reiss’s top 5, including their base salaries:

  1. Jerod Mayo ($600,000)
  2. Devin McCourty ($405,000)
  3. Sebastian Vollmer ($510,000)
  4. Wes Welker ($2.1 million)
  5. Rob Gronkowski ($405,000)
